Quote

We witness a miracle every time a child enters
into life. But those who make their journey home across time and miles,
growing within the hearts of those who wait for them, are carried on the wings
of destiny and placed among us by God's very own hands.

The music playing is some of my favorite songs that have inspired me and kept me moving through those difficult days where I find myself missing Katie and struggling to understand God's timing. I would encourage you to continue listening to the music even when you are done reading our updates!

How we came to adopt

We were done having children.  We have two beautiful children, a boy and a girl and we felt so blessed.  We had decided that our family was complete so we took care of business to ensure we did not bring anymore Harris's into the world and sold all our baby stuff.  Then a year later, I found myself up late at night perusing adoption websites, and sobbing over the horrific fate that some of these children would endure.  God was pulling at my heartstrings, but I didn't think my husband would ever be on board with adoption, as we had decided our family was complete.
I never spoke of my hopes to adopt and I certainly never revealed my desire to adopt a child with medical needs.  Then one day, Patrick said "I don't know if you are going to think I'm crazy, but I have been thinking a lot about adoption."  That was the beginning of the end.  That was all either of us needed because we new this was His plan for our family.  And when the Big Guy speaks, you listen.
We completed stacks of paperwork, received approval from a social worker that we were fit to parent a child and we knew that our daughter was in China.  People often ask us how we decided on China.  We did research on several countries but in the end felt that this is where He was pulling us.  And over a year later, we are now waiting for the most beautiful little girl who is living in Luoyang, Henan.  She is in a very large orphanage that has a wonderful program, so we feel very blessed.  Her Chinese name is Dang Qing ("Ching") Na.  We will change her name to Katie Jane Na Harris.  She is currently 23 months and she will turn 2 on September 25th.  Her birthday is, of course an estimate as they believe she was abandoned at 10 days old.  She was found on the steps of a Budhist temple and taken to the orphanage and then to the hospital where she underwent brain surgery for an Epidural Hematoma on her brain.  It is very hard for me to say that she had "brain surgery" but that is what it is.  As a tiny baby, they opened her up and removed a blood clot that had formed on her brain.  At this point, all the test show that she is developementally on track.  But as many of you know, information on children in orphanages can be drastically incorrect so there is a leap of faith.  But when Patrick and I received the phone call about Dang Qing Na, we didnt care about the risks.  We KNEW this was the child that God had picked for our family.  There was no way we could walk away from this little girl.  She was ours, no matter what her medical condition may be.  Once we get her home, she will undergo lots of neurological testing to see if there is any damage from the surgery, but we feel confident that she is healthy and developementally on track, given her two years in an orphanage.  And if not, we will deal with the challenges as they come.  As long as she is happy, we will be happy and our family will be complete....  Hopefully, unless we are called to adopt again!!!!
Thank you for all the support and prayers as we can use all the help we can get while we wait for our baby girl to come home.
